Boer Male Goat are the only goats in the world bred specifically for meat production.
They were developed in South Africa over the past 50 years from indigenous goats with resistance to a wide range of diseases and adapted to harsh environments ranging from the deserts to the tropics and also cold climates.
The improved Boer Goat in southern Africa has shown that it can survive longer in droughts and poor grazing conditions than other goats. The dressing percentage of Boers is high compared with other goats and yields from 48 to 60 % edible meat.
Boer Goats give lean, high quality meat which is tender, juicy and flavoursome. Boers provide larger, higher quality skins which fetch better market prices compared with local goat skins. Boer goats have brought about a goat meat revolution in Australia, China, the U.S.A. and Canada.
